AURAS (Autism Understanding, Recognition and Assessment Service) is Sinclair-Strong’s dedicated diagnostic service for adults who may be autistic.
We provide clear, respectful, and high-quality assessments that support neurodivergent adults in seeking answers and self-understanding.
Understanding Adult Autism
AURAS provides a supportive, judgement-free space for adults to explore their identity and access tailored clinical care.
Comprehensive assessments
Our Psychology-led team brings extensive experience in Autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions.
Using NICE-recommended, gold-standard tools such as ADOS-2 and ADI-R, we combine structured assessments with clinical interviews and informant reports.
Support across needs
Assessments are suitable for adults with a wide range of complexities, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions or intellectual disabilities.
This ensures every individual receives a clear, accurate understanding of their needs and support options

Who Can Refer, and How
NHS-funded and private referral pathways available.
Referral routes:
1. NHS Referrals (Kent & Medway residents)
All Autism referrals must be submitted by GPs to Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT). Patients can request Sinclair-Strong (SSC) as their preferred provider on the referral form.
2. NHS Referrals (Outside Kent & Medway)
GPs from any other ICB area in England can send referrals directly to us via:

3. Private Referrals
We also accept private (non-NHS) referrals for Autism diagnostic assessments.
If you’re seeking an autism assessment, you may be eligible for NHS-funded access through the Right to Choose pathway.
What Happens During an Assessment
A careful, compassionate approach to diagnostic clarity. We understand that autism can present differently in adulthood - especially for those who have masked traits for many years.
Your assessment journey:
Referral and first contact

Once a referral is received, our team will reach out to gather additional background information.

An initial appointment is then arranged, either virtually or in person, depending on what best suits the individual’s needs.
Tailored assessment pathways
- In some cases, a full in-person assessment may not be required, such as when an individual’s existing history clearly rules out a diagnosis.
- Any adaptations to the process are discussed openly with the individual and, where appropriate, their family or advocate.
Qualified clinical oversight
- Every assessment is conducted by a highly trained clinical team with external ADOS-2 and ADI-R certification.
- Specialist supervision ensures a consistent, thorough, and compassionate approach to diagnostic clarity.
