Complex Adult Autism Assessment Service
CAAAS

SSC Complex Adult Autism Assessment service is commissioned by the NHS to provide assessments to adults presenting with complex co-morbidities, such as severe and enduring mental health issues, Intellectual Disability, ADHD, etc.

We employ gold standard measures, endorsed by NICE guidelines, for the assessment of Autism in adults, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) and Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R), and supplement this with informant and clinical interviews.

We work alongside Psicon and Psychiatry UK as part of the Neuro-developmental pathway provided by the Kent Community Health Foundation Trust

Referrals are made via GPs to the Neuro-developmental pathway (visit: Kent NHS AUTISM/ADHD Service) in the first instance and following triage, complex adult Autism assessments are undertaken by our team.

We will contact referred individuals and may request further information before arranging the first appointment. This may involve a virtual or in-person meeting, depending on what is most appropriate for the assessment and the individual. On some occasions, a file review will make it clear that an Autism diagnosis is highly unlikely, and in such cases an in-person assessment will not always occur. This will always be discussed with the individual and their family.

We are a small psychology-led team with extensive experience in assessment and diagnosis of Autism and related Neuro-developmental conditions. All team members have undergone validated external ADOS-2 and ADI-R training and receive specialist external supervision.
